I’m generally pretty conservative about my expectations for upcoming online roleplaying games. It’s pretty easy to get burned with these things, and the way it often goes is that the more promising the premise and the grander the claims made by the development team, the more buggy and ill-thought-out the game systems are at release. To be sure, I do have some niggling concerns about the upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, but the more I see of it, the more I think Bioware might actually beat expectations and produce a truly solid Star Wars gaming experience. I’ll certainly be playing, in any case.
Here’s a recently released trailer using in-game footage:
What is amazing, I think, is that when Bioware first began announcing the game’s classes, a lot of people were saying, “Who would want to play anything other than a force user?” But frankly, the force users look to be about the least interesting classes in the game right now. The bounty hunters and the troopers, in particular, look as though they’ll be an absolute blast to play.
